Not in My Book by Katie Holt

2.0

"Not in My Book" follows the unlikely collaboration of two upcoming authors. But there's a catch: They write in completely different.

I was so excited to read this because academic rivals to lovers is one of my favorite romance genre. I really did try to like this book, especially since I liked the author's writing. Ultimately, this book had so much potential, but it felt flat for me. I enjoyed the book within a book concept since it allowed us to see a glimpse of the other character’s perspective. I found myself getting giddy over their writings for their book. While the writing was engaging and well-done, the characters fell flat for me. Strong characters are a must-have in my romance novels, and unfortunately, this one didn't quite deliver in that area. I had a tough time connecting with the characters– I found them immature for their age to be honest. As much as I love rivals to lovers trope, their banters felt disrespectful and off-putting.

If you enjoy light-hearted romance books, especially with the rivals to lovers and forced proximity trope, you might still like this! I still find this a decent book since I enjoyed the writing and concept. Unfortunately, it just isn’t for me. I am still excited to read more from Katie Holt in the future tho. Thank you to Alcove Press and NetGalley for the ARC.
