The Woman Behind The Waterfall by Leonora Meriel
2.0

The artwork on the cover of this book is really pretty and entices its readers to explore further. The pages of the book have a nice feel to them and the font used also plays into the readers’ desire to read the story. I started reading and found I enjoyed it the story, a story that spanned three generations - grandmother, mother and daughter/granddaughter. It started like any other story and then the second chapter introduces the daughter’s (Angela) Nightspirit which sounds like a bird and this is where it becomes confusing. I persevered for as long as I could stand to but I found that the further in I got the more confused I became. The confusion came about because there would be a story about Angela talking to her mother (who seemed to be perpetually depressed) and then the next thing the reader knows Angela seems to have become a bird looking after her own brood of children. From this change we then go back to Angela being a normal human girl. This changing from human to bird wasn’t as seamless as it possibly could be so the end effect jarred. In spite of the difficulties I encountered with this book I would be willing to read more books by this author.
