The Sorrows of an American by Siri Hustvedt
3.0
I read "What I Loved" a while ago for my book club and really enjoyed it, so I grabbed this book when I saw it at the library. This work has a heavy psychiatric component to it that ties many story lines together. I haven't decided if all the side stories really help the plot line or just clutter an already full novel. While there are many characters in this work, I thought the author did a good job at bringing them to life and intertwining their storylines. The subject matter was interesting and engaging, but for some reason, I felt rather depressed reading this novel, but maybe that was supposed to be part of the reaction.
