This Is Our Story by Ashley Elston

(8/10)- Wow. This book really surprised me. My friend recommended it, and since I really like mysteries, I decided to read it, but I didn’t necessarily have high expectations (I did hope that it was going to be really good, though). But this book literally gave me everything I was looking for in a book at the moment. It had a great mystery, which left me wondering who did it until the end, and the result made sense and was well set up. It had romance, and honestly the stakes set up were really good and the relationship felt very real. I’m not sure how accurate the court stuff is, but the author is the daughter of an attorney so I’m pretty sure it’s realistic. It also dealt with some pretty heavy topics in a way that wasn’t offhanded. Some of the foreshadowing was a bit obvious, but it didn’t bug me much. I only have two problems with this book. One is that the main character, while being a very good character, is also pretty creepy sometimes. She literally follows people, but it fits into the story alright so it’s not a big deal. But that reminds me of another tiny problem in the beginning, which is that for some reason Kate runs in to the River Boys every five pages and it’s weird. The other criticism I have is about Shep. He’s a good character, but very inconsistent, since he seems to have two different personalities sometimes and it does bother me a bit. But otherwise, this is an incredibly solid book.
