The Captive & the Fugitive by Marcel Proust

4.0

Probably my favorite volumes from In Search of Lost Time thus far, here Proust's attention is turned to the experience of not understanding someone you love, and the trap of wondering what they are up to in your absence. As with the other volumes, Proust's prose is quite elaborate, and I confess that I struggled a little to remember what happened even in this volume, let alone the entire collection. A theory I have: fans reread Proust so often because they frequently forget what happened in each book.
