~NOTABLE READ OF 2013~
An affecting literary comic set in a German boys’ boarding school about some of its troubled students, Moto Hagio was inspired by her friend and fellow artist Keiko Takemiya’s interests in intimate relationships between males, and after seeing the French 1964 movie Les amitiés particulières (This Special Friendship). This Special Friendship was in turn based on the award winning 1943 novel by Roger Peyrefitte about two boys at a Roman Catholic boarding school.
