I didn’t read any reviews of this before I read it, and wow, folks disagree! It’s long but never felt cumbersome to me. It’s dark for middle grade but certainly no worse than something like Amari. I didn’t love the ending, but it’s the first of a trilogy, so final judgement suspended.
