Emma Averell has a perfect life. A high end job as a lawyer, a husband and two wonderful children. But as her 40th birthday approaches she begins to experience severe insomnia. She begins to think she’s going mad. When he estranged sister calls her to tell her that her mother is dying after living in the psychiatric hospital, Emma who has been keeping her family’s past a secret finds herself having to confront monsters present and past. Emma begins to wonder - is the madness in her blood?

After watching Behind Her Eyes on Netflix I thought, shoot I should’ve read the book first. But I rarely do if I watch something, so instead I told myself I’d read the next book by the author! And here we are with Sarah Pinborough’s Insomnia.

The thing I enjoyed most about this one was the pacing, I loved how quick the chapters were and how the story kept building and building. The tension increased slowly and it was very well executed.

The characters were also enjoyable. Typically with thrillers I find myself shaking the book because the characters make really dumb choices and I can’t fathom how they could make such choices. Insomnia had well flushed, dynamic characters. Especially the main character, she was sleep deprived and dealing with trauma, it was realistic!

Although I guessed most of the twist fairly early on I did still really enjoy this one! Thank you @harpercollinsca for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! Insomnia was a 4✨ from me.
