jopen 's review for:
The Marsh King's Daughter
by Karen Dionne
A couple of weeks ago, I found myself standing in a circle at a bar with 4 other organizers who love books, typing recommendations wildly into my notes app. This read is the first result of those recommendations which ended up in my TBR list at the library. Thank you, fellow book nerd organizers, for your fine advice.
While not necessarily a festive or cozy holiday read, I recommend this psychological thriller as a badass way to escape your dear, sweet, not at all obnoxious family over the holiday while you all spend a lot of quality time together. This book will give you a sometimes-needed break and will also make you grateful for the level of crazy your family is NOT. Because the family in this book is frikkin bonkers, and not in a fun and quirky way either.
The audiobook is good. I was only kidding on my previous post where I said the narrator should have an upper midwestern accent. That might have been distracting, and maybe too hilarious for the subject matter. (Sorry, Yoopers and Liknesses. The accent cracks me up.)
