I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman

Did not finish book. Stopped at 23%.
this was so disappointing. the story itself was fine but there were two aspects that I could not get past when reading that hindered any original enjoyment I had. This is mostly just about Angel tbh.

1. the characters were 18. Angel was EIGHTEEN and acting like that. she really and truly said that love couldn't be real if Jowan weren't together at her big age. get a massive grip on reality. at the meet up she said the age range was 15-29. TWENTY-NINE at a meetup for a teenaged boy band. seek help @ everyone involved. this isn't me hating on fan culture (for age appropriate participants). in, ahem, middle school (aged 11-14) I ran a fan page for my favorite artists. I shipped Dan and Phil. but I wasn't doing that shit at 18!

2. I do not need Alice Oseman preaching religion at me. I don't care that the characters are religious (even though religion gives me a minor ick but I can get over that). I DO care that it got to a point where I felt like I should be at church. While Angel was sad on public transit with headphones in, a random lady told her that whatever she was going through was God's plan and Angel was like "this is completely normal and something that should be encouraged" DO NOT DO THAT. Also, as of when I stopped, we had been introduced to one atheist and this one singular atheist wishes she were religious. what a fucked up thing to write about. equivalent to biphobes saying to pick a side.

now that I have written this review, I am going to pretend that this book never existed and just remember how phenomenal Radio Silence and Heartstopper are. I still plan on reading the rest of Oseman's books and hoping this was just a major dud
