Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

2.0

The book pretty much bored me the whole time. The plot wasn’t really exciting and it was kind of predictable what would happen next.
At first, I was annoyed by Alina, but then it got a little bit better. Mal is annoying enough already. He is so overly jealous of Nikolai and makes Alina feel bad. He doesn’t really trust her with Nikolai, but that isn’t Alina’s fault. She always cared for him, but he has to make her feel bad of course instead of trusting her. Shouldn’t he know Alina better since they knew each other for so long?
*SPOILER*
Mal is so obsessed with Nikolai. It’s not Nikolai’s fault for being a prince or looking good. Nikolai is just trying to save his country while Mal doesn’t have anything better to do than being hostile towards him.
He told Alina to tell him to stay at the little palace, but she just wanted him to be happy. As far as I know he didn’t even think about how Alina felt when he always left, because he didn’t like it at the little palace. Didn’t he think she would be lonely without him? It’s like he didn’t put much effort in their relationship at that point anymore and expected her to go to him and tell him she loves him, I guess. He would probably still distrust her.
When Alina flinched, because she saw the Darkling, he didn’t ask why, but instead he just assumed she didn’t love him anymore, because he already didn’t trust Alina. So, he proceeds to dramatically drink alcohol and fight people for fun. It looked like he didn’t care about her personal feelings. Then he also is fine with kissing Zoya, because he made assumptions Alina didn’t love him. Instead of talking to each other he avoided her so Alina couldn’t properly explain. His behavior was so annoying throughout the whole book.
At least Nikolai was in it, because he was my only motivation to even finish this book. That’s why it still gets 2 stars.
