Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao
1.5
adventurous emotional lighthearted mysterious reflective medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This was not for me. It served everything to you on a plate, the characters had no clear motivations and kept contradicting themselves, and the whimsical nature of the writing and setting fell short of cute and charming and sadly landed in transparent and childish, which made the sudden sex scene in the middle even more bizarre to stumble across. I did enjoy the twist at the end (though not the very end) and overall i did want to finish it, but i was mostly motivated by exasperation and disbelief rather than any positive emotions. A real shame!! I imagine some people might really enjoy the odd setting and mix of whimsical fantasy with creepy horror elements but it was not my jam at all.

Also (massive spoilers for the end):
did anyone else catch some bizarre anti abortion sentiments at the end with the reveal of who Kei was???? I don't think it was on purpose but it again completely took me out of the story and baffled me
