The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies by Alison Goodman

5.0

I picked this audiobook out thinking it was going to be a bit of a regency romp. Nothing prepared me for the powerful stories of women’s lives in that period if one was not lucky enough to be rich and submissive to the patriarchy.
Whew! Goodman has done some serious research and does not spare us the details (steal yourself). This is real women’s history and we should all know about it.
Plus the story is action packed, with great main characters, plenty of moments of light relief, romance and the promise of a sequel!
(I hope the author has it well under way.)
EDIT:The author has just assured me on IG that the sequel is already with the publisher!)
Possibly my favourite read so far this year.
