Knots: Stories by Gunnhild Øyehaug

2.0

I am always a bit reluctant to go deep into translated works unless i am familiar with the translator. More often than not, the translated work doesn’t capture the soul of the original writing.

That brings us to Knots. Maybe it reads a different way in the original form, but when translated into English, it feels a bit empty.

I like the ideas, the surrealism and how all the short stories are easy reads. Most of the stories are completely unsuspecting and surreal. Fun reads and good twists, but somehow it doesn’t speak to me and i did not feel as engaged as i was hoping i would be after seeing the overwhelming rating here on goodreads.

Her style of writing is purposely trite to drive the message home, but somehow it leaves me with a reader lethargy.
