The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi
4.0
A strong follow-up to the previous book! I enjoyed getting even more depth to the characters and their relationships, both when it came to those established in The Gilded Wolves and those who saw more limelight this time around. I already loved Laila, but Enrique's development absolutely blew me out of the water. There weren't as many puzzles here but still plenty of mysteries to figure out, and the way Chokshi crafted the story around The Divine Lyrics was fascinating. I also liked the setting of the Sleeping Palace, although I thought the Winter Conclave would be more...dire? Carry more weight? I still think Chokshi overuses certain words and images (how many times can Séverin's eyes be described as purple or the color of dreams/night?), and her tendency to repeat lines actually causes them to lose weight, but I thought the pacing was better here, maybe because there was the threat of time running out. And the angst...romantic and personal...so good.
