Winter's Fury
by A.E. Rayne
-Jael, kingdom under control under Uncle (Lothar) who seized the crown after the kings death. The new king betroths her to a prince (Edmond) of a foreign kingdom as an alliance. The prince has a bad rep of being an incompetent ruler and a drunk.
-Prince Eadmond is a grieving alcoholic. He very much reminds me of Tyrion from GOT because he has a good heart, good head, but bad coping mechanisms. He has a nice character arc but he was mostly dead weight throughout the story.
-Edela is Jaels grandmother, she is a dreamer who sees glimpses of the future in her sleep.
-Alexander is Jaels first love/best friend.
-Evaine is Edmond’s sneaky link, she’s jealous and her father is best friends with Edmonds father the King.
-This is a book with a wide lense on many different characters and moving parts but there’s still depth given to each character making you connect to all of their worlds.
There’s a lot going on with a couple sub plots in there.
Did get a little drawn out, action scenes were stellar but there were very few of those moments. The impending trouble that was always lurking never came to fruition.
Alot of readers felt like this read like a soap opera, and it did. But not in a dramatic overly soapy way. Just get quick snippets/segments of each person. I actually enjoyed that. I wasn’t left wondering long what happened in each part of the world.
I enjoyed this book and being in this world for a little while but I’m honestly not too compelled to the 2nd one. The characters and plots were awesome but it was too drawn out, with not enough pay off for me as the reader.
