Iron Flame is the thrilling second installment of the Empyrean series. Following the events of Fourth Wing, we continue to follow Violet Sorrengail as she seeks a way to protect those she loves.
While the world-building and lore is just as immersive as ever, where I knocked a bit off in my rating is in the depiction of Violet and Xaden’s relationship. I felt like there was a bit too much time spent on their lack of communication and arguments over the lack of full disclosure from Xaden. At times, Violet comes across as a little whiny and immature.
With that said, I still adored the characters and found the rest of the plot to be well-paced and compelling. I hope we continue to learn more about the world, the venin, and all of the other details in the next installment.
