The Maid by Nita Prose

2.5 out of 5 stars
My impression of this book was a rollercoaster - i really enjoyed it, then i hated it, then I liked it and then I didn't like it.
I was disappointed because this book was kind of sold to me as a quirky murder mystery whodunnit, when it really was more of a heartfelt personal story, it was pretty evident from the beginning roughly how the murder mystery portion of it was going to turn out minus the plot twist they throw in at the end.
What I liked :
Molly's inner monologue , i loved hearing about her cleaning especially
Her moment's with her grandma [especially the scene nearing the end, it got me tearing up]
Her and Juan Manuel's relationship
What I didn't like :
I just hated what they did with the murder plot for this story. like a lot. I nearly contemplated giving up on the book entirely when Molly was talking to Rodney and just literally being mistreated. I just don't enjoy reading chapters and chapters of an autistic-coded character being taken advantage of over and over again from Wilbur to Rodney to Cheryl to Giselle to a certain extent.
I also found it stupid as hell that they never addressed Molly's Autism [heavily implied] and kept calling her 'unique' . I just find it ridiculous that no one in this world seems to have realized this? the detective literally has a whole interrogation scene with her and not once does she realize? Why did her gran not send her to a special ed class? why does literally no one seem to know about this?
also i found the epilogue chapter just ... so thrown in at the last minute and felt that it really wasn't that necessary.
