This book was a slog. Nearly all of the characters were insufferable, especially the main character. Her motivations made no sense. Her back story was vague and really just created confusion. Because this is a Mick Herron book, I assumed it was going to be some sort of spy thing, or at least espionage adjacent. At one point I thought "oh, no. That's not it at all. This is a book where we watch the main character's slow descent into madness." No, it was not that either. I don't even know what it was. I nearly chucked it but kept going because I liked Herron's Slow Horses so much. Eventually, at about the half way mark, the plot starts to pick up so at least finishing the book got a little easier, but it wasn't worth it. This had none of the dark humor or, dare I say, charm of the Slow Horses novels. Really disappointing.
