Three Tales of My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett

4.0

Originally published in the 1950's this collection of three stories is still sure to charm young readers and parents. Suitable as a bedtime read or for independent readers these tales tell the magical adventures of the unnamed narrator's father who is named Elmer, his friend the wise old street cat and, of course, his father's dragon!
The first story is of Elmer's journey to find and rescue the dragon, the second is the adventure they have on the way home. The third tale is of the dragon asking Elmer for help when he discovers that his family is being threatened by people. Each adventure has a whimsical, gentle, funny and adventurous feel.

These stories reminded me of the adventures of Tashi by Anna Fienberg or Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree.
