This was a heart-wrenching and wonderful story, and the writing is absolutely spot-on perfect. A father copes with the death of his wife by distancing himself from the world, while his son takes a vow of silence in the hopes that she will return. The magical thinking, the pain, and the moments of tenderness are all incredibly vivid. These are characters that stay with you long after the end of the book, and it's one of my top three books I've read this year.
