UnDivided by Neal Shusterman

5.0

I am so glad I returned to finish this series. It is absolutely amazing. It ended perfectly.

I will never stop thinking about this series. It is absolutely brilliant. I never finished it with my first read through and I never stopped thinking about it after just the first 2 books. I absolutely love Neal Shusterman and everything he writes.

I am going to copy my commentary from while reading below. It’s pretty sparse. I was too busy reading to comment!
- 25% Groundskeeper… you can do more than just hide behind some plants . Pull your dead coworker partially on top of you and wipe his blood over you. Play dead.
- 32% In the real life news clipping about euthanasia for children being authorized in Belgium, at the end it says “Belgium recorded over 1,400 cases of euthanasia in 2012.…” that is such a misleading sentence I am actually upset. They’ve had that many ADULT cases of euthanasia. As of 2018, only 3 children had been euthanized.
- 36% I just got chills when they talked about the first teen uprising when “feral” teens took to the streets after the failure of schools. It is oddly timely given that kids in Nashville and maybe elsewhere took to the streets in protest for gun control and safer schools after the recent school shooting in Nashville. It made me consider the fact that just like this book, abortion is being banned in order to protect life, yet politicians couldn’t give a shit about the kids after they are born.
- 41% I think the punishment that Will’s family had chosen for the man who kidnapped and unwound Will is perfect. ““We have discussed it and have decided that your death at our hands would be meaningless.” Fretwell breathes a sigh of relief. “Therefore,” she continues, “you will be remanded to the Central Tribal Penitentiary. You will, for the rest of your life, be given nothing but bread and water. The minimum required for survival. You will be allowed nothing to entertain yourself. No contact with other human beings—so that you will be left with nothing but your thoughts until the end of your days.” Fretwell’s eyes swell with horror. “Nothing? But you have to give me something. A Bible at least. Or a TV.” “You will have one thing,” Elina says, then Chal reaches behind him and pulls out the object he has been concealing. It’s a rope.”
- 43% “A great man knows not only when he’s called upon, but also when he’s not,” says Elina. “The truly great know how to accept and embrace a common life, just as much as the call to duty.”
- 48% “This time, we’re not just taking out the staff. We’re killing every last tithe as well.” Just when I thought Starkey couldn’t get any more insane!!
