Echoes and Empires by Morgan Rhodes

1.0

The protagonist is really poorly written - every other thought is interjected with how privileged she is, and there are a million revelations that it takes her forever to get. It's also annoying to hear her prejudice over and over - not that you can't have a protagonist who is flawed, but "magic is evil and that's what I was told" is slammed into the reader over and over.

The world-building is confusing, as the magic is pretty vague and there are also modern technologies like cars referenced. I'm also glad that someone mentioned the Monty Python reference that was made like three different times, because it was super jarring.
