Bad. Awful. Legitimately, one of the worst books I've ever read. I cannot convey how terrible this book was. If I could give it zero stars I would. Let's break this down.

Starting off with little miss "iM NoT liKE OtHer giRLs". The main character was terrible. Just awful. She wasn't like other girls which was ANNOYING and took away from the story. Also with her ✨aNxiEtY✨, it was SO OBNOXIOUS. It just ruined the story because it was soooo unnecessary. Like please you're distracting. There were SO many scenes the did NOT have to be in there.
Next, David. He was fine except not really. Like VERY instalove and there was NO lead up or build up or REASON to their romance. Like it was very kylo ren and Rey kiss scene, like what the fuck I did NOT pick up those vibes and it happened VEEEERY fast. Yuck.
Also, the author really wrote what she THOUGHT was Gen z or like what she thought kids acted like. Like I can TELL she is a Gen X TRYING to write Gen Z and it went VEEEERY badly for her. Like genuinely awful.

Next is the legit book. It was so long and so very VERY boring. I could've taken out like scenes upon scenes. Did NO ONE proofread it???? Like did no one go "hey you don't need to say 25% of this book?????
The book was predictable, I guessed it pretty much from the beginning. I literally almost didn't finish it. The only reason I did was because I wanted confirmation I was right. Gosh I wanted to be so done with it.
It was FRUSTRATING because you did NOT need most of the first few chapters or anything that happened to it. ALSO IT TAKES 50% OF THE WAY THROUGH THE BOOK TO GET TO THE PLOT????? LIKE THE MURDER HAPPENED HALF WAY THROUGH???? YOU DIDNT NEED TO WRITE PRETTY MUCH ANY OF THE BOOK???????? I'm AAAALLL for a whodunit (like BIG fan of them love them) but holy fucking hell, Riley sager books move faster than this book and they're MONSTER novels to get through.
The writing? Also really really bad. It was messy and unorganized and did not flow like there was so much I was confused on. Maureen put all the wrong details and clarified the wrong things like??????

Here is my biggest qualm. You can have political opinions you can have your social opinions you can have a lot of things but the amount that it was PUSHED down my throat? I literally almost DNF'd it MULTIPLE times. It made me want to BASH my brains in. I was like "ok I get it maureen I get where you stand politically shut up they're 14 let them fucking do the mystery and move on.

Anyway, terrible book. I'd rather shoot myself than read anything like this again.
