Jason Reynolds' Long Way Down was the perfect book to remix as a graphic novel.  The free verse text unfolds into a smooth, illustrated narrative alongside Danica Novgorodoff's expressive watercolors.  I think this format will also be more enticing and accessible to teen readers than Reynolds' novel in verse.  In the story, fifteen-year-old Will is on his way to shoot the guy who shot and killed his brother.  On the elevator to the ground floor, he's visited by family and friends who'd also fallen to gun violence.  This is a touching, telling, beautiful book about—above all—love.
