Murder on the Christmas Express by Alexandra Benedict
3.0
What can I say that hasn't already been said by so many other reviews? This book was trying to be far too many things at once, and ended up doing most of them subpar.
The overall mystery I thought was good. It kept me interested and wanting to read. And is the only thing that's keeping my review at 3* and not 2.
I didn't love the constant flashbacks to and graphic descriptions of traumatic sexual assaults. It was a lot to read. But I also struggled with a police officer holding this trauma for 30 years, and having faced other cases of sexual assault in her work, never having processed her own even a little bit. So it's still haunting her and giving her sleepless nights and nightmares almost every time she sleeps.
I also found the last few chapters to be unnecessarily preachy and difficult to read.
