This book was cuter than I expected.  I peeked at a few reviews before I read the book and was a bit doubtful about readers saying they literally laughed out loud. It is pretty corny at times but it fits the overall vibe of the book. I was very skeptical when Damien's dad would call him kiddo and was 3 more kiddos away from DNFing. I liked Damien, Amma, and Kaz, even though two of them are demonic both in nature and personality. Reading Damien soften towards Amma as their journey progresses was sweet. As I became acclimated to the writing style, I began to enjoy the tension between Damien and Amma a lot more (especially the knots situation in the woods). I wasn't too fond of Amma's name just because it's how the word 'mom' is spelled in a few languages, but I was able to look past it.  I did think the book was a bit difficult to get into because of the evil terminology sprinkled in every sentence and how colorful each paragraph was, but it got better after a few chapters.

“My life’s work,” said Damien, lips curling at the corners and thin, black brows narrowing. “It is finally complete.” He was twenty-seven.
