The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman
4.0
Heart warming and magical.
My introduction to Alice Hoffman was through her novel Practical Magic and as soon as I’d finished reading that story, I wanted to find out more about the Aunts. So it was rather helpful of Alice Hoffman to write The Rules of Magic.
If you want a pacy, exciting tale of adventure, this isn’t it. Instead, this novel takes you on a thoughtful journey of discovery, the discovery of magic and the discovery of self. Who am I? What am I capable of? What should I dare to do?
It paints a richly depicted picture of how the sisters, Jet and Franny, grow into the aunts we will meet in Practical Magic. It also questions what a happy ending truly is.
