The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle

4.0

The novel takes the reader through a quick but lyrical journey through the streets of 1920s New York City. Charles "Tommy" Tester, a young black man, leads the reader through the mysterious and at times unknowable parts of the city as he encounters personal struggles that transform him into someone as unknowable as the city he walks through. Trigger warning: This book contains violence, some gore, and racial slurs that some readers may find objectionable.
