I really loved the plot of this, and there was so much going for this I wish I could give this a higher rating, but it just fell flat.
I loved the pacing, and the forced proximity, the rescue, it was good.
But... The character building was maybe 10% there, there was no depth to them even with "building blocks" being there, and the characters not even being true to themselves for the sake of spicing it up.
"Building anticipation is the best part" is a quote directly from the book (Cal talking about his relationship with Scottie), and there honestly was none of it, with the entirety of the book telling us how to feel instead of showing us why we should feel that way.
