My Review:
What an adorable story of a novella this was. I am not sure how I missed this one, there are a few shorts and novella's I somehow missed in recent years so I was eager to get to this one. This story didn't seem familiar at all. I was very intrigued by this one though. I loved the premise. Its basically a protective alpha male, with a kind soft FMC which is my favorite dynamic especially for this author and its more rare for her to write these kinds of couple pairings. I found Secrets at Midnight to be so endearing. The hero and heroine meet in some unlikely circumstances, there is instant connection, but the heroine appears human but she isn't. She actually is a changeling but suffered a trauma as a child and now its killing her if she lets it. I love the caretaking feel to this story, how the hero guides her through the process of connecting with her animal. Nalini Singh is queen when it comes to writing in depth novellas and this one is no contest for that.
Overall I had a fun time with this one and didn't want to leave the story once I was drawn into it. A true keeper of a read!
