Everything is Fine Volume One by Mike Birchall

4.0

Volume 1?!?! VOLUME 1?!?!?! I honestly had been okay with the ending of this as The Ending™, I hadn't realized that it wasn't and I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about continuing on, as the ending before this gave me similar vibes of the scary stories we read as kids where we don't get a real conclusion.

This does start out really slow, like REALLY SLOW and even as the pieces start to fall in place the pacing doesn't feel like it picks up. I feel like Everything is Fine falls victim to the change in format from webtoon to physical book when it comes to this. Because the way you end up consuming this book is in one sitting which isn't typically the way that you consume webtoons. But also there is the fact there is something totally different in the way that your brain processes scrolling down thru a chapter vs turning pages the contain 3-6 panels typically, for some reason the later just ends up feeling slower. Even if they may look like they've always been in this format with how they overlay, it doesn't give the same impression when you're trying to processes it as a reader.

If you can get past the pacing, the story is intriguing though you find yourself entrenched in a story somewhere between Big Brother and The Stepford Wives. Where you are left constantly trying to piece together the pieces of information you are given, and to fully understand what is going on/what previously happened.

Overall: Interesting, but better consumed within the web-based form.
