Death of an Eye by Dana Stabenow
5.0
With the Silk and Song series still fresh in my mind, I was unprepared for Death of an Eye to return to the mystery format that Stabenow handles with such mastery in her Kate Shugak and Liam Campbell books. I hadn't read any reviews of Death of an Eye, so imagine my confusion and subsequent surprise as it dawned on me that I was reading a mystery that takes place in Egypt in the days of Cleopatra.
Once I let the story take me in, I was captured by Tetisheri just as surely as I have been by Kate. I especially appreciate Stabenow's ability to capture the details of worlds long gone, and bring her investigator characters to life with the every-day distractions of job, family, and the world around us that we all must cope with. I look forward to the next volume in an extended (hopefully!) Eye of Isis series.
