kellykferguson 's review for:
Half of a Yellow Sun
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
5 stars for scope and setting (Biafra revolution from Nigeria 1967-70) and 3 stars for character development. The first half of the book I was completely hooked, but by the last 200 pages I just wanted the war over already, and the characters did not develop very much—especially considering the circumstances. Events just kept happening to and the characters kept reacting and at some point there were so many people dying or going missing I had a difficult time knowing who to care about.
And yet, I emerged a better person for having read this book. The book is problematic, but in was that ways that generate interesting discussion.
