Dies the Fire
by S.M. Stirling
I read the first several books in this series years ago but never read anything close to all of them. I saw something that said a new book would be out soon, so I thought I'd start the series over again. The book is still very good, but I noticed a few things this time around that I hadn't noticed before (or at least, that I hadn't remembered) ... having read so much post-apocalyptic literature, I've become used to stories of the absolute collapse of society, and this is rare because of the overall positive message it portrays: large groups of people coming together for the purpose of doing good. That just isn't common in the genre... not that it's a bad thing!
