Originally published as a serial, this fictional diary of a woman living in an English country town was very witty. It really focuses in on the minutiae of family life as well as the social customs of the 1920s, which were interesting to read about. The diarist seems to be somewhat well-off in the sense of having staff and a house and grounds to manage, but they are obviously not well-off when it comes to finances, as she is constantly managing having spent more money than she has to hand. This was an enjoyable read and I’m glad I picked it up on a whim!
