Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
5.0

2022 reread: Listening to this with my children was such an enjoyable experience. Everything I loved about it when I read it on my own was even better with them. They are 7, 5, and 3 and they were hooked from the beginning.

2018 read: I loved everything about this book! The writing style is beautiful, the characters kept me reading, and I loved the country feel throughout. There was a strong sense of family and faith in God woven throughout everything Billy (the little boy) does; one of my favorite parts of the book was how strong his faith in God was, but how he would ask God for help and then do everything he could to make sure it happened, but also was able to recognize when God helped him. I thought the author did a beautiful job with that. I also loved the story of friendship between the two dogs and between the dogs and Billy. It is a touching, tragic (I definitely was crying by the end) novel.
