Evenings and Weekends by Oisín McKenna
3.0
tense slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Loveable characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

This book is a piece of art, and I clearly see why people like the book. There are clever metaphors built into the whole story, with the heatwave and the rain, the emotional tension, the whale and the relationships. I found the first 2/3 of the book to be exhausting because people aren’t communicating. They aren’t saying what they are thinking, and the characters are just acting insufferable (also realistic). I know it’s the point, and it also means that it wasn’t quite the book for me. Feeling constantly tense and annoyed while reading a novel isn’t how I like to do it.
