Confessions of a Mask
by Yukio Mishima
An often discomfiting and highly lucid account of a man’s struggle with his sexuality, the book doesn’t offer much by the way of plot, atleast in the first half, but the way references to art, literature, and philosophy are woven into his tormented ramblings certainly deserves credit. The way the conflict in the second half pans out is particularly haunting, and I think the closing scene does the book justice.
