(listened to the audiobook) Since this is the author's debut novel, and the narrator's debut audiobook, the narration and dialogue start out a little bit corny and wooden. But if you stick through to about the halfway point, you'll fall so in love with the characters that it won't matter. The heart of the book is so wholesome, and the drama is everything my little inner 13-year-old could have possibly asked for. The climax is surprisingly raw, and definitely stayed with me after I finished the book. Reads quickly and easily, and the plot is just complex enough to really let the characters shine. (The main character experiences a good amount of transphobia and homophobia from his family, but this is resolved by the end of the book.)
