Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie

2.5/5
Truly it’s me, not the book.
So I’m rounding up the stars.
It’s well written and pacing is great but…

This read more like a YA in the character development/plot resolution/cheese, when I was hoping for more since it was labeled NA. Other than Robin and demon boi, I felt that all other characters felt pretty flat (2D) and convenient in a YA genre way. Moreover, due to the plot, much of the book was confined in a small setting we don’t really know much about- and I’m huge on world building. It reminded me of watching a cheesy YA action movie, easy/entertaining, but not really what I wanted.

Also, I really tried to like Robin, because she has relatable traits, however I could not fall in love with her naive/clumsy bookworm character like I wanted to. Though I appreciate how the author developed her growth in this book, I still found myself cringing or irritated at some of her reactions/choices.

I realize this could be because I don’t think I relate to her as much as I expected and because I tend to prefer/idealize the badass heroine character more…

Once again, it’s me, not the book. *sighs*
