Rouge by Mona Awad

3.75

If I hadn't already read Natural Beauty (which is essentially this book with better execution), I would have rated this book much higher. Although I think the two naturally lend themselves to comparison, I'm nonetheless glad I enjoyed both, because they both scratched the part of my brain that itches for strange literary fiction.

I really do love Mona Awad, and even in the case where I found a comparable book that I adored, I enjoyed this nonetheless. I finished this in a day and it felt as much like a fever dream as my favourite Awad books. I am so grateful to be alive at the same time as the rise of Mona Awad and now I will impatiently wait for her next, wonderfully weird adventure.
