The best Greek mythological retelling I’ve read in a long time. On par with Madeline Miller’s Circe. The Penelopiad or Song of Penelope in its literal meaning, is a remarkable piece of literature, exploring Penelope’s story. It’s told in a way very reminiscent of a piece of oral storytelling or a play. It’s non linear, frequently jumping around in chronology and it’s so excellent for that. Atwood explores Penelope’s story and takes inspiration from a multitude of sources, not just Homer’s Odyssey. It’s broken up with Chorus sections of Penelope’s maids, each one really unique and interesting. Overall a fantastic book, a must read!
