Others have said the same, but I highly recommend listening to the audiobook read by Jeanette herself. The places that she chokes up that they chose to keep in are powerful. Hard book to categorize as to mood, but it's a good and honest portrayal of abuse, and another in a pile of testimonies as to the ugliness of children's entertainment.
Graphic: Child abuse, Death of parent, Sexual harassment, Alcoholism, Eating disorder, and Sexual assault
