Jack of Shadows
by Roger Zelazny
Oddly uninvolving, which is weird for me as I am generally a big Zelazny fan. The hero Jack is a hard character to root for - Like Elric, he's basically a totally self-interested moral-free zone whose only motivation is to get revenge on anyone who has wronged him. The book follows his path as he hacks and tricks his way through his enemies, giving out lots of, "Join my side or die" ultimatums and raping and enspelling a woman he wants so she'll be his queen. I like to at least have someone to root for in a book - Here, I was mostly just waiting till it was all over to see what the fallout would be.
