Dubliners by James Joyce

4.0

A lot of these stories, especially The Dead, are depressing and borderline relatable with how disappointingly downplayed everything is. Grief and sorrow and diffidence for the world are all portrayed wonderfully, but so subtly that you need to pry at what Joyce is trying to convey. Some of these stories, though, bored me, and a lot of them were great, wonderful reads. I would think I’d like this with better context, and I would return to this after his two following works in order to see what I can get from this series of stories again. Overall, recommended and I think everyone should read it.
