Girls Save the World in This One by Ash Parsons

5.0

I got this book at the library this morning, it’s barely evening and I just finished it. Could not put it down!

This was a very cool take on zombie stories. Three high school besties, in the midst of dealing with real-life friendship drama and thinking about passing the SATs and where they’ll be going to college, attend a zombie convention in their small town, to meet the cast of their favorite TV show. There’s strange things along the way…”cosplayers” in hazmat suits, a man with super convincing zombie makeup biting a teenage boy, and a maintenance guy doing something with the doors.

And then during the cast talk, the maintenance guy reveals himself to be a scientist, saying that people have been infected, and they’ve all been locked in! Ha ha, clearly some overzealous weirdo caught up in the zombie convention madness, right?

And then, there’s loud banging on the doors.

This was just the right mix of creepy, fun, and suspenseful. I was pleasantly surprised! Definitely recommend this to fans of zombie stories and/or folks who think they could make it through a zombie apocalypse at Comic Con.
