It’s a real shame that Tiffany D jackson, didn’t notice the plumber writing the last chapter when they came to fix her shower.
Okay, not really but the last chapter was the worst ending I’ve ever read. The whole way through I was really engaged and I loved Mary a protagonist. She was 15, made mistakes and at times wasn’t super likeable. But I think it fit her situation. I think the writing was fairly simple, but that’s a plus for the story because it makes it more accessible to more readers. For a story written fairly simply, the emotions were packed in. I really felt for Mary. I don’t necessarily agree with her choice of keeping her kid, but the thing is it’s her choice. She shouldn’t have people deciding for her. I will admit, I never really thought of what happens to inmates when they got pregnant. I’m happy the book brought this to my attention, and was looking up the affects on both the women and infants in these situations. I liked how it showed how unsafe home environments can be and how much the system fails people. Especially black girls/woman.
