this book fed the reader in me that loves a ishiguro-esque winding mystery that is unveiled to the reader as it is being revealed to the narrator. and it is challenging to read a book with as imaginative a premise as this and never find out why things are the way they are. nevertheless, i enjoyed greatly. was surprised to find it was written in 1995. but like the characters, i can see this book remaining eerily suspended in time.
