Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition by Daniel Okrent

5.0

One of the pillars that the USA was founded on, alcohol. It's simply amazing the amount that people had drank years ago. This book provides a good synopsis of how Prohibition came about, what the years of Prohibition were like, and lastly how the USA changed after Prohibition was repealed. I couldn't help but think, as the book certainly got me thinking of how the Prohibition of alcohol and eventual legalization correlates to today's world with the status of marijuana. It's obviously a very tricky issue as it is recreationally legal in some states and legal in some states for medicinal use, and. yet the Federal government has a different opinion entirely. I am in favor of legalizing marijuana or at the veery least decriminalizing it. Some do not have the same feelings on it as I do, but I do feel that from a historical perspective this is a book everyone should consider before coming to a decision on marijuana. Studying the effect of Prohibition of alcohol and the effect of the repeal of Prohibition is really the closest we can come to studying the effects of legalization of marijuana.
